The Winterton Care Campaign Group has had a busy schedule in the last three months. Distribution of donated items to the most vulnerable residents on our snow clearing list has been completed and we have received grateful messages from many. We have also noticed an increase in calls for assistance from people who are in need of urgent information when having problems with house emergencies.
We had a request from Appleby Parish Council for a presentation of our Winter Support scheme and how it could be replicated elsewhere.
Many thanks to the residents who donated prizes for our tombola stall at the Charity Fair in April. We raised £62.60 and have still some prizes to have another one at Make a Difference Day in October, although any further donations would be welcomed! Prizes can be left at Mike Joyce Insurance, King Street.
A massive thank you must go to The George Hogg customers who donated £83.84 in our collection box. This is very much appreciated.

We organised a hustings in April to give residents an opportunity to meet Parliamentary candidates, ask questions and listen to their views. The hustings was attended by some 50 people, a very good attendance considering that the event was held in the afternoon.
Due to the great interest and the number of topics, the event over ran by half an hour. We have received numerous complimentary remarks from members of the public, candidates and the event’s chair on how well organised the hustings was. Having heard reports on other hustings held in the area, it seems that ours was very civilised!
In the last Out ‘n About issue, we reported how much efforts Stuart Maw and Ryan Mather had put in constructing and spending 48 hours in a WW1 replica trench. The exercise had raised a great amount of money for this community and had been used by the junior school to show pupils the conditions WW1 soldiers had to endure. What a shame that Stuart and Ryan’s hard work has now come to nothing when the trench has been completely trashed by young people during the Easter school holidays. There were plans to improve and extend the trench to be a focal point for extra activities and put Winterton on the map for the right reasons.

Stuart will be giving more of his time to the Winterton community shortly with a sponsored litter picking which will also benefit our campaign group Winter Support scheme and the 2nd Winterton Brownies.
We are planning to improve our Winter Support Scheme for next winter and are now working in partnership with Winterton Town Council. Of course, we would welcome extra helping hands for snow clearing and other support duties. We need to thank John Kemp for his participation last winter and as he is no longer on our Winter Support Team, wish him well for the future.
Many thanks to Phil Cousins for £100 donation towards high vis vests. The amount was raised by the Friday Night Football.
