The Winterton Care Campaign Group is most grateful to Stuart Maw and Ryan Mather for raising funds for us. They spent a gruelling 48 hours in a WW1 replica trench. We have appreciated their brave effort enormously and were overwhelmed with the amount they presented us: £380.50 which has been assigned to the Winter Support Scheme.
The snow came and we were able to put into action our Winter Support Scheme. Many thanks to all the volunteers who have kept Winterton residents safe. It has been hard work to cover all areas. We ran out of grit due to the fact that North Lincolnshire Council failed to replenish grit bins but we still achieved 95% coverage. Yet again, Stuart has put a great deal of work in this, out at 5am to ensure that places would be safe for people to go to work and children to go to school. On the whole our teams’ efforts were very well received with many complimentary remarks made and thanks received. Although one resident used abusive language complaining that one snow clearer was “a do gooder who was spoiling it for the kids”. After explanation that the snow was cleared to ensure that older residents would not fall and get hurt, she replied that “they should stay indoors”! Great attitude!
We must also thank everyone who has donated items to the can scheme at the Winterton Co-op store. Distribution will take place shortly.
We are still distributing Winter Survival Kits to vulnerable residents over 60. For details contact us via email [email protected] or ring 733441.
We will have a stall at the April Charity Fair and are collecting small tombola prizes or donations towards prizes. Your help would be most appreciated. Prizes can be left at Mike Joyce Insurance, King Street. Thank you.
